In the fall of 1965 I made my first picture of a tree in my hometown of Evansville, Indiana. I was seven years old and the camera came from a "Secret Sam" toy spy kit (the camera could secretly take pictures from inside a plastic brief case).

I don't recall what motivated me to take the picture, other than the fact that I had a camera and thought my neighbor might appreciate a picture of this tree from his yard.
