OMP approaches Chandra X-ray Observatory
A manned orbital maintenance platform (OMP) approaches NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory for repair and upgrade.
Chandra is a space-based X-ray telescope that was launched in 1999 and occupies an elliptical, 64-hour orbit that takes it up to 83,000 miles from the Earth--one third of the way to the Moon--far beyond the orbit of geostationary satellites and far higher than the Space Shuttle could ever reach.
